03. BIOROBOTICSIn development for years, robotic prosthetic limbs finally hit the markets in late 2013. Relying on the body's natural nervous system, at last there was an answer to the most horrific of injuries that let you pretend, for the most part, that they had never happened. Lost an arm? Leg? Even the blind could at last get replacement eyes - for a price. And like any expensive medical procedure, soon there began to be a black market.
At first it was just replacement limbs. Then, as technology grew, brand new mechanical organs. And then people got a bit imaginative. It began to be used more for aesthetic than life-saving surgery - still expensive, of course, but catering for an entirely different kind of clientele. But even that wasn't enough for the the number one retailer of black market robotics, who thought up some... alternative uses for the technology.
Like out of a sci-fi movie, they began to deck themselves out in modifications - to be faster, stronger, having built in body-armour, hidden knives that lived just beneath imitation flesh. And once people began to hear of it, they wanted in on the action too. So the technology designed to help people heal was turned to creating more pain.
