What was so interesting about a panda? Naoki's gaze traveled from the zoo's billboard to the signs to the very posters plastered on the ticket office, and each was emblazoned with a picture of the animal. Was it just the creature's appearance? Certainly it could be classified as conventionally cute, if you could look past the more traditionally imposing bear-like claws and fangs (and due to the abundance of rilakuma and terra pandas in shops, he supposed it was a reasonable deduction that they could be easily overlooked), but they didn't seem particularly more appealing to the model than any other animal. Perhaps it was the species's' reluctance to breed that fascinated humans so much? It seemed an odd pass time, obsessing over bear sex-lives, but plenty of people in the past had obsessed over his own.
Yes, moral indignation at not fulfilling society's average standard for intercourse – the panda was a deviant, thus the surplus of attention. That made total sense.
...
Or it was actually the cute-thing, but that was so much more uninteresting an answer, and at least this way he could feel a bit of kinship for the animal.
Naoki opened his phone, running one hand through his hair and instinctively trying to slide it down to where his wig would be and was a bit surprised to be met with nothing but air. Though he'd just been at a photoshoot, today had been one of the (increasingly rare) male styled one, and, as he'd gone directly from it to the zoo's entrance, the model hadn't had time to change from the vis kei-styled clothing from the shoot they'd given him. As soon as he'd gotten out, an hour and a half sooner than he anticipated, he'd sent a short and succinct text to his life partner.
I'm out early. I'll be at the gate. Be careful on the subway.
He'd dallied a bit on sticking an emoticon at the end, but decided against it. After all, he never did: even his text messages were blank and matter of fact.
He clicked to the internet on his phone and searched for pandas, hoping to retain some trivia to impress Aki later once they'd reached it's enclosure. The photoshoot make up was starting to itch a bit, and he was actually thankful he wasn't in drag for today. The fake eyelash glue and duck-tape probably would have been inconvenient in this heat. Flipping over to texts, he sent another to Aki.
It's hot and sunny, it would be wise to apply sunscreen if you haven't already started to head out.
Once sent he returned to the fact-find, leaning against the gate to the zoo's entrance.

[Quick note: So sorry it sucks. I wrote it at 2:30am my time. >n<]
Getting a night off was always fantastic. Aki generally slept most of the day away, but not going in to work meant he could actually wake up and get more done. It wasn’t like he was missing anything on the days he slept, at least. Naoki had a job that kept him away from home a lot of the time, and he preferred staying home and catching up on housework to going out to party (though that was fun too, on occasion). Once he got his frilled apron and bandana on, however, he realized there wasn’t much to clean. He should have known that Nao would keep the house spotless while he was away. It made the man giggle, and he wiped a fingertip across the completely dust free shelves in the living room with a fond smile.
He really needed to reward him for this. Somehow.
Aki glanced at the clock, frowning at the hands that told him he still had several hours before he could see his husband. He was in such a clingy mood that he was almost tempted to hop on a train and go see him at the photo shoot. But no, he couldn’t interfere with his work. They really needed the money from it—it would be really unfortunate for them to lose their largest source of income when they were making such good progress on their payments. So instead of going off for some impromptu pestering, he focused all his energy on getting ready. If he started now, he could really fix himself up!
He hadn’t expected it to be so easy, choosing the perfect date outfit. It was too hot for anything heavy. A nice pair of shorts, a cute blouse, and a pair of not-too-dressy heels made a nice little ensemble that wouldn’t smother him. He opted to leave the wig off, too, so he wouldn’t get all puffy and sweaty. His male haircut was still passable for a woman, and way more comfortable than the female hair that was sitting on his dresser.
Just when he was preparing to leave, his phone vibrated in his pocket, and the text he received made him rush out the door. Aki had expected to get there a little before Naoki so he could rent a parasol for them to walk under (he had really been looking forward to waving Nao under it for some reason), but now he was being waited on. So he rushed as quickly as he could to the train and flung himself in just before the doors closed. He sent a quick text out to Nao, telling him he would be there as soon as possible, and tapped his foot the whole way to the station (thankfully only having to swat away one hand that got too close to his thigh). The second the doors started opening, he slid out and ran to his destination.
It wasn’t hard to spot his husband in the crowd. God, he was lucky—Naoki was so gorgeous it was unreal. And he was all made up, fresh from a shoot. Aki smiled widely, loving the fact that he’d come here so early instead of spending that time to get out of his work attire. His serious face was so cute, staring at the screen of his phone. Aki tip-toed over to avoid his heels alerting his ‘prey’, and slid a hand up the front of the model’s shirt, leaning in quickly to give him a peck on the cheek before the surprise wore off.

When there was a hand suddenly sliding it's way up under his shirt, Naoki reacted calmly and sharply on instinct. The hand holding the phone went up between them, arm stiffened like a barrier, while his left hand shot up to face level, palm facing inwards to give whoever was in front of him a very clear image of the diamond ring on his third finger. His face remained cold and blank when his cheek was kissed, staring ahead like he was a statue. It was only when the mysterious groper pulled back that the model was able to see exactly who it was.
“Ah.” He said, in monotone at his mistake. Naoki glanced sideways at his 'someone liked it so they put a ring on it' hand and blinked once in the stoic equivalent of sheepishness before lowering it down. “I'm glad it was you.” He said, voice still toneless. There was a bit of a pause where he reached out and ran his thumb across Aki's lips. “Studio make up is heavy, and wipes off easily.” He said in explanation. It also tasted bad, and he didn't want anything to leave an unpleasant taste in his partner's mouth, literally or figuratively, for their date today.
Sliding his phone shut, he put it into his pocket and pulled out the two zoo ticket's he'd bought when he'd arrived. Even they had little panda pictures on them. Didn't the zoo like any of it's other animals? “If my research last night was correct, the layout is set up similarly to a figure eight. Is there a particular animal that would would prefer to see first?” The detached and logical way he spoke didn't sound like a way one would speak to a spouse, but it was simply normal for him to use ultra polite and formal Japanese at all times. To combat this, a small bit, Naoki took a step back and shamelessly looked Aki up and down. “You look lovely.” Though the tone lacked emotions, he knew his partner would understand he meant it genuinely. Not wanting to dally in the sun and heat, and confident that his spouse would continue to chatter talk even if they were moving, he offered his arm like a man you'd see in western Victorian movies (not encased in the general Japanese bubble of no contact due to his hobbies) and started to walk into the entrance.
He passed the tickets over to the gatekeeper without a word, and continued on, prepared to go whichever direction Aki decided on. He'd had time to look up miscellaneous facts on a lot of animals while he'd waited.
He was prepared.
